Adventures In Rice Cereal

For those of you out there with babies, you already know that 5 months is the official kick off time for rice cereal. For those of you who don't already know, rice cereal is the first food babies start eating. It's basically flakes of...well rice I guess, that you mix in with milk and feed to baby. Personally, it looks disgusting but I have been told that babies are to eat it in anticipation of the good stuff to come (pureed peas, carrots, etc). So, needless to say Caleb recently got his first taste of rice cereal. Most of it he spit out (who can blame him) and ended up absolutely covered. He doesn't look to sad about it though, or like he will miss the calories either.
Day 2 we got smart and used the bib, this worked a little better and it's possible that a tiny bit more actually made it into this belly.
However, we still needed to follow up with a quick scrub down in the kitchen sink.
In other news, Brad finished his training for Arlington Fire Dept (yay) and starts on a regular shift Monday. Last week they had Family Night at the training facility and we got to go see him in action.

Caleb took it all in calmly from his stroller (possible sign of a future firefighter?).
By the end of the night he was so overwhelmed with excitement he could hardly contain himself.

We don't need no stinkin naps!

That's right...no naps in our house! Actually I should probably explain that we've been working on sleep A LOT lately. And there has been some progress, Caleb is now sleeping in his own bed (in case you didn't know he had been sleeping in his car seat, in his bed. By choice, I should add that too). Anyways, he is now sleeping in his crib, when he sleeps. This is our new issue.
So we've tried it all letting him cry, rocking, checking on him in timed intervals, you name it. It seems like for every one step forward, it's two steps back. If he does better at falling asleep at night then he gives up naps during the day, or just to keep us on our feet he may decide one day to take great naps only to stay up all night. We are not giving up though and I am crossing my fingers that tonight's the night he falls right to sleep and stays that way until morning!

So on that note here are some recent pics of Caleb (not sleeping) that we're taken when we went to Utah by one of Matt's friends.
