Water Baby

Caleb loves the water. LOVES. IT. He could spend all day in the pool if we'd let him. He splashes, kicks his feet and sometimes when he's feeling bold even dunks his face. Fearless. Also, shameless - when else can you let all your rolls hang out of your swimsuit and feel this good?
We also had a nice visit with Matt, Melissa and cousin Lillah last week when they were in town. Caleb was amazed by Lillah, how can something that small make so much noise? She is a maniac (that's a compliment) running all over the place and he could not figure her out. She was actually very sweet with him and I think they will get along great in the years to come.

going for a ride, thanks for the push cousin

waiting for breakfast having a talk with Pop Pop Lillah's new friend

Little Brad

In honor of Father's Day I thought it was only fitting to do a post about Brad as a dad.
I should probably provide a little back story first on the title of this post. Little Brad is one of Caleb's many nicknames. Brad started calling him that before we even knew that he was a he (guess that worked out for the best). It has caught on with a lot of our friends and family especially after Caleb was born and it was confirmed that he is in fact a little Brad. Even their newborn pictures looked nearly identical. It is painfully obvious that my genes have been steamrolled by the stronger pushier Easter ones (it's OK I've come to terms with it, however I am still holding out hope that he gets my stunning wit and astounding intelligence, oh and my modesty too - did I mention that). The similarities between little and big Brad go well beyond looks though. Both like to wrestle, both are messy eaters, neither probably get enough sleep, both are laid back, neither really likes to wear a shirt around the house. These are only a few examples, I could go on and on.

Brad is a fantastic dad, I will say that. He lives for Caleb and likes hanging out with him even more than Hank (if you have seen Brad and his dog you know this is saying something). Its been fun to watch him learn all the baby stuff and really there is nothing he won't do. Diapers, feedings, baths, bedtime - he's on it. I will say that we have found baby clothes to be his one great downfall. They confuse and disorient him. He has put both of Caleb's legs in one leg hole and not noticed until much later, and buttoned up a pair of pajamas with a pacifier stuck in them and not noticed until much later. He also hates pulling the onesie over Caleb's head because sometimes he fusses, so instead he tries to pull his arms out and then slide it down the entire length of his body. No small feat if you have seen the girth of Caleb's body. Lately, he seems to have just given up. Last week when he babysat I left Caleb in his diaper since it was almost time to eat, I laid out an outfit for him to change into on the changing table. When I returned (8 hours later) Caleb was still in his diaper and the outfit was still on the changing table. I guess if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Here are a few pictures of "Little Brad" and his dad that I don't think have been on the blog before:

6 months ago today...

I was in the hospital, Caleb was about 6 hours old. It's amazing how much he has changed in half a year. He's gone from tiny little blob (I mean that in the best way possible) to bubbly, blubbery, bundle of baby. This is what we know about him so far...

  • he is stubborn (he will sleep, eat and play when he feels like it)
  • he smiles all the time, at people, toys, celling fans, whatever

  • he is all boy. The things that crack him up - being tossed in the air, bounced around and any farting noises you can make with your mouth

  • he is a lover, not a fighter

  • he is a nudist

  • he is an equal opportunity eater (hasn't met a pureed vegetable he doesn't like)

  • he is quiet until he gets to know you, then he will scream to get your attention

  • he snores

  • he has great self esteem (he can look at him self in the mirror for hours)

Its only been 6 months that we've been getting to know him and already he is quite the character. I can't wait to see what the next 6 months bring!
